- Destiny 2’s next Dungeon, Vesper’s Host launches on 11th October.
- Vesper’s Host will be the first Dungeon to feature a race to the finish and Contest Mode.
- The first three teams of three players will earn themselves a hoodie and a bracelet.
This week Bungie announced it would be dialling back some of its end-game content, specifically Raids and Dungeons. Players will now see one Raid and one Dungeon over the course of 12 months
Thankfully, players will still be getting a Dungeon in this content cycle in the form of Vesper’s Host.
The Dungeon will become available on 11th October and this time, Bungie is taking a page out of its Raid notebook. Traditionally, Destiny Raids releases are marked by a race wherein teams race to be the first to complete a Raid and win an exclusive prize
Vesper’s Host will feature a Dungeon race wherein teams of three will race to be the first to complete the activity. It’s worth noting that Dungeon content is designed to be completed alone and as such it’s generally not meant to be as tough as a Raid. To fix this, Bungie is introducing Contest Mode.
Contest Mode amps the difficulty of the activity up significantly and teams will need to come ready for a fight to the death. Bungie notes that players should have a Power level of 1985 to access the Vesper’s Host. Contest Mode will be available for 48 hours.
“Contest Mode applies some very specific rules to raids, and now dungeons. Enemies are more aggressive, encounters feature resurrection tokens, and some encounters will have an enrage mechanic that limits the number of phases or the time players have left to complete it. Also, character Power does not provide an advantage above the recommended level,” writes Bungie.
Players will also have to be part of a team of three to be eligible to be crowned the first to complete it.
The first three teams to complete the Dungeon will receive a Vesper’s Host Activewear hoodie and a bracelet.
For those who are just looking for more of a challenge in a Dungeon, completing Vesper’s Host under Contest Mode conditions will reward you with an exclusive emblem and the Dungeon Exotic as a guaranteed drop.
Once three teams have completed the Dungeon, a Normal mode will become available for those who want to experience the new content without having to no-life the game.
Of course, in order to access Vesper’s Host, you will need The Final Shape Dungeon key, a contentious piece of DLC that will disappear as part of Bungie’s push into the future and its Codename: Frontiers gamble.
