- Ubisoft has announced that the release of Assassins Creed Shadows has been delayed until 14th February 2025.
- Te game was initially slated to release on 12th November,
- Ubisoft is offering refunds to those who have pre-ordered the game, and will offer the first DKC for free on any new pre-orders.
Ever since it was first announced In May earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been ill-fated.
From a big price tag and questionable pre-order bundled content, to main characters that divided several parts of the internet, the game proved controversial before a single second of it was actually played by fans of the franchise.
Now the wait to play the game has been lengthened as its release has been pushed back to 2025.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was initially slated to release on 12th November 2024, but now it will be launched on 14th February next year.
While Ubisoft cites the decision to do so as a desire to do bit more spit and polish, it does not bode well for a game that already had a lot riding on its success for a developer/publisher that has been looking for a hit AAA release.
Per the BBC, executive producer on the game, Marc-Alexis Cote, noted that the developers “need more time to polish and refine the experience.” “We understand this decision will come as disappointing news, but we sincerely believe this is in the best interest of the game,” he added.
Given that Ubisoft has happy to take pre-orders for months before ultimately choosing to delay the release, it begs the question of just how complete the game currently is.
“The learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title,” explained Cote. In our review of the game we noted how solid it was despite some online division prior to its release, but it ultimately did not perform as desired and resulted in “softer than expected” sales, according to Ubisoft.
To offer some respite to potentially jaded players who have already pre-ordered, refunds will reportedly be offered. Moving forward, any future pre-orders for the game will receive free access to the first DLC/expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How this delay will ultimately impact the reception of the game remains to be seen, but the aforementioned time being taken for spit and polish needs to be worthwhile.
