Cards Against Humanity is suing Elon Musk’s SpaceX

  • Cards Against Humanity has filed a lawsuit against SpaceX.
  • The game maker alleges that SpaceX has turned one of its pieces of land into a construction site.
  • Cards Against Humanity is suing SpaceX for $15 million.

The party game that makes people groan when it’s pulled out by that “edgey” friend – Cards Against Humanity, is suing Elon Musk.

Yes, the game that describes itself as “pretty fucked up” is launching a legal battle against the world’s richest man. The company claims that Musk’s SpaceX is using a piece of its land to “dump his shit”.

“Seven years ago, 150,000 people paid us $15 to protect a pristine parcel of land on the US-Mexico border from racist billionaire Donald Trump’s very stupid wall,” writes Cards Against Humanity (CAH).

“Unfortunately, an even richer, more racist billionaire-Elon Musk-snuck up on us from behind and completely fucked that land with gravel, tractors, and space garbage,” the company added.

The goal of buying the land was, per the lawsuit with SpaceX[PDF], to “make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for Trump to build his wall”.

According to the website Elon Owes You 100 Dollars, when SpaceX was confronted by CAH, the game maker was given a lowball offer for the land. This was rejected by CAH which promised to see Musk in court.

So, CAH is suing SpaceX for $15 million which the company says it will use to pay those who helped it buy the piece of land in 2017.

“While this isn’t enough to compensate our subscribers for the anguish they’ve suffered witnessing Elon Musk defile their once-verdant land-where wild horses galloped freely in the Texas moonlight-we think it’s a pretty good start,” wrote CAH.

The lawsuit reveals that SpaceX has purchased a number of properties surrounding or near CAH’s stand.

When it was purchased the land was untouched save for some mowing CAH did. Now, the plot resembles a construction site. Worst of all, SpaceX didn’t even ask for permission to use the land, it seemingly just decided that it would use the vacant plot because it could.

“In short, SpaceX has treated the Property as its own for at least six (6) months without regard for CAH’s property rights nor the safety of anyone entering what has become a worksite that is presumably governed by OSHA safety requirements,” reads the suit.

CAH quite simply wants SpaceX to remove its junk from its land and is seeking both an injunction to accomplish that as well as the money it’s seeking. In addition, it wants SpaceX to cover its fees and it wants this whole thing to play out in a trial.

Matters like this hardly ever reach a trial stage and we suspect that lawyers are ironing this out in closed-door meetings as we speak.

Neither Musk nor SpaceX has commented on the matter and we suspect they won’t until this is ironed out. We don’t expect CAH to shut up about this though, at least not until it gets paid.
