A recent survey reveals that voters perceive Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump as nearly equal contenders regarding economic management. According to the latest poll by the AP/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, Harris received 41 percent support, while Trump garnered 43 percent, indicating a tight race in public opinion.
The poll also highlighted that around 10 percent of voters either trust both candidates equally or do not trust either of them. This division reflects a complex landscape as the election approaches.
Trump has attempted to tie Harris to President Biden’s controversial economic policies, particularly regarding inflation and his “Bidenomics” agenda. However, as economic indicators show signs of improvement, Harris seems to be leveraging this positive momentum to sway public opinion in her favor.
Prior to Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race in July, about 60 percent of Americans expressed disapproval of his economic management, according to another AP-NORC poll conducted in late June. This backdrop provides context for the current competition between Harris and Trump.
The economy remains a critical issue for voters, with 80 percent of registered participants in the recent survey listing it as one of their top concerns heading into the November elections. As candidates sharpen their messaging on economic policies, the upcoming months will be pivotal in shaping voter perceptions and preferences.
